Don't lose your proverbial locker room!
The 2018-2019 NFL season is 2 weeks underway and while I usually do not consider myself a prognosticator I will rehash my post Super Bowl 2018 comments regarding the Patriots.
While they have dominated the NFL landscape for nearly two decades, this year they will find themselves in unfamiliar territory due to the discord sown by their coach, Bill Belichick. While his iron fist management style and genius coaching ability may have netted the Patriots 5 Super Bowl victories there seems to be a slight crack which has developed following their loss in last years big game.
Gone is Malcolm Butler, who now plays for the Tennessee Titans, but the questions regarding his absence during the game linger on. Coach Belichick still hasn’t provided any reasonable response as to why he was benched for the biggest game of the season. Often being stubborn and stuck in our ways is a sign of an inflated sense of self-worth, which you may think he’s entitled to have after so many championships, but it comes at the expense of the losing the trust of his players.
Players, like employees, need to believe. They need to believe that their leaders that they will make decisions which are seemingly in the best interest of the team and the company. If you think your manager has made a mistake and is now trying to cover his or her own proverbial behind, it can be demotivating and discouraging. Only time will tell just how much Belichick has lost the locker room but if indeed the Patriots don’t live up to their incredibly high standard, it won’t come as a total surprise!
